Barcelona communicate terms of first offer as negotiations open with Inter for Alessandro Bastoni

Barcelona and Inter are already in talks for Alessandro Bastoni, who is reportedly keen on a move to Catalonia this summer. Bastoni has been identified as the first choice for Barcelona to strengthen their defence in the offseason, their second priority after signing a number nine.

Bastoni has already given the green light to a move to Barcelona, and talks are underway over a deal for the Italian international. Inter were set to renew his deal this season, with his current contract up in 2028, but U-turned on that decision earlier this year after a dip in form.

As per Sport Mediaset (via Sport), talks between Barcelona and Inter go beyond just the green light to negotiate with Bastoni from the Nerazzurri. The Blaugrana are willing to pay €45m for Bastoni, taking into account that his salary would likely be more than €5m per annum.

Inter demands far higher

There have been varying reports on what sort of fee Inter would find acceptable for their 26-year-old star defender. Initially there was talk of a price tag of €80m, but with Bastoni’s stock falling, the general consensus has mentioned figures of €60m, perhaps with some variables included to sweeten the deal.

The Bastoni move within Barcelona’s transfer market

The move for Bastoni has come somewhat sooner than expected, given Barcelona’s priority for the transfer market, as has been widely reported, is a number nine. That was expected to be the most expensive deal Barcelona try to cut, and as such, the move for a central defender was subject to that.

If Barcelona do strike a deal, it will likely see Andreas Christensen move on this summer. The Danish defender is out of contract, and has yet to accept the club’s fresh offer, which includes a significant wage cut.
