The Boston Red Sox started the season at 10-17. Now the Red Sox have clinched a spot in the 2026 MLB Postseason. The team is likely to play against the New York Yankees in the wild card round of the playoffs.

As the Red Sox prepare to play their last six games of the year, they are getting an update on closer Aroldis Chapman, according to MLB.com.

“Chapman should be available for the final homestand, which starts on Sept. 22,” the update read.

Chapman has been out since September 13 with a lat injury. Garrett Whitlock closed the game against the Texas Rangers with Chapman out of the lineup. While the closer is injured, he is not concerned about the injury.

“I’m not worried at all,” Chapman said. “From the first time I felt it to today, I feel very good. I was going to go out and throw, but the team wants to take it slow, and they want me to take my time.“

This year, Chapman has appeared in 52 games, going 3-4 with 34 saves. He has also blown just two saves so far this year. Further, he has a 1.95 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP this year. He has not blown a save since June 28 against the New York Yankees. Since then, he has converted 17 straight save chances.

The Red Sox are 84-72 on the season, which places them third in the AL East and in control of the second wild card spot in the American League. The Red Sox open a three-game series against the Cleveland Guardians before a final series against the Chicago Cubs, one of Chapman's former teams, to end the season.
