The Ottawa Senators stayed perfect on Monday night, cruising past the Boston Bruins 4-1 at TD Garden. However, the win came with a scare, as starting goaltender Linus Ullmark did not return for the third period.

Ullmark was slow to get up after Bruins forward JJ Peterka crashed into him in the crease with 4:24 left in the second period. Peterka had been shoved by Ottawa's William Eklund on the play. Ullmark stayed in to finish the frame, but backup Samuel Ersson took over after the second intermission.

Head coach Travis Green explained afterward that the move was precautionary.

“He kind of tweaked something a little bit,” said Green. “Precautionary, we just felt it was best if we bring him out. Get it evaluated again.”

The 33-year-old Swede had been sharp before leaving, stopping all 10 shots he faced over two periods. He was back on the Senators' bench early in the third. Ullmark also made 27 saves on 29 shots in Saturday's season-opening win over the Toronto Maple Leafs, and he became the first goalie in franchise history to win the team's first two games of a season since Craig Anderson in 2016-17.

Ersson, making his Ottawa debut after arriving in a June trade with the Maple Leafs, made eight saves in relief. The only blemish was James Hagens' second career NHL goal.

Up front, Tim Stutzle scored twice in the first period and added an assist, moving into sole possession of sixth place on the Senators' all-time points list with 413. Michael Amadio finished with a goal and an assist, and Drake Batherson also scored.

Ullmark is now considered day-to-day. The timing is concerning for Ottawa, which is already without top defenseman Jake Sanderson.

The Senators, now 2-0-0, visit the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night.
