One of the best ever to put on a Philadelphia Eagles uniform has officially called it quits, with right tackle Lane Johnson announcing his retirement from the NFL on Tuesday.
Tributes have been pouring in for Johnson after his announcement, including a heartfelt one from one of his former coaches in Philadelphia, Jeff Stoutland, who was part of the team's coaching staff during their two most recent Super Bowl wins.
It is extremely rare to come across a player like @LaneJohnson65. Extremely rare,” Stoutland wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
“In the spring of 2013, I found myself on a field in East Texas working out a young Lane Johnson. I believe he was 22 years old.
All these years later, to say I am proud of the career you built and the man you became would be an understatement. A Hall of Fame career. It’s been a privilege and honor to have coached you. I am so proud of you, Lane.”
The 36-year-old Johnson appeared in three games in the 2026 NFL season, the last one being Week 3's matchup against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field in Chicago. He did not play in Week 4's home game versus the Los Angeles Rams.

Mark Bell is started in place of Johnson in the Rams game, and that could be the case for the remainder of the 2026 NFL season, as the Eagles navigate their way without the six-time Pro Bowler Johnson.
