The Minnesota Vikings made a series of roster changes Tuesday after placing guard Donovan Jackson on injured reserve due to a season-ending knee injury.
Jackson tore his meniscus during Minnesota's Week 4 win over the Miami Dolphins, ending his second NFL season after just four games. The 2025 first-round pick had started all four contests at left guard this year after making 14 starts as a rookie. Joe Huber replaced him during the game against Miami.
With Jackson unavailable, the Vikings added offensive tackle Tristan Leigh to their practice squad. Leigh originally joined Minnesota as an undrafted free agent from Clemson and played in the team's preseason games. His addition gives the Vikings another offensive-line option as they manage their current depth situation.
Minnesota had already added offensive linemen Nick Samac and Trevor Keegan following final roster cuts. Samac is currently on injured reserve, while the team has opened the practice window for center Michael Juergens, putting him on track to return from injured reserve.
The Vikings also released three players from their practice squad: punter Johnny Hekker, running back Devin Neal and cornerback Natrone Brooks.
Hekker had spent time on both the practice squad and 53-man roster since Week 2. He handled punting duties for the previous two games while rookie Brett Thorson recovered from a right hamstring injury suffered during Minnesota's win versus the Chicago Bears in Week 2. Hekker averaged 37.75 yards per punt against the Dolphins on Sunday and had two shanks.
Article Continues BelowThe release of Hekker comes as Thorson is expected to be nearing a return from his hamstring injury. Neal and Brooks were more recent additions to the Vikings' practice squad. Neal had spent around a week with Minnesota after previously being selected by the New Orleans Saints in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
The Vikings also waived cornerback Tyreek Chappell from injured reserve.
