Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles find themselves in a tough situation following a shaky start to the 2026 NFL season. However, NFL insider Ian Rapoport doesn't see a rebuild happening anytime soon.
Philadelphia witnessed the retirement of Lane Johnson, who played crucial roles as an offensive lineman in the team's two Super Bowl victories. They also parted ways with Cam Jurgens, trading him to the Baltimore Ravens.
Rapoport provided his thoughts on the Eagles' situation during a Friday appearance on the Pat McAfee show. He poured cold water on the rebuild talks, stating it wouldn't happen in a city like Philadelphia.
“You can't rebuild in Philly. You can't rebuild in any of these big cities. Honestly, you can retool and you can move on the fly and you can be kind of nimble and you can do the sorts of things that Howie [Roseman] does. You really can't rebuild. Fans demand a winner all the time, so I don't get the sense this is rebuilding. I think the value was great. Found a team, the Ravens, that had to have a center, and you know Jergens is awesome, a two-time Pro Bowler, but a center only. So when he was playing guard for the Eagles, like that doesn't make sense,” Rapoport said.
“They found a team that would give them premium compensation, a future second rounder, and they like Drew Kendall, a young center, and had a chance to move on from a lot of money and did so. It's going to be interesting to see if the performance is similar. You know you can't make up for Lane Johnson, so that's sort of different. But going to be interesting to see if Drew Kendall's performance at center is similar to what you got from Jurgens.”
