The Dallas Cowboys fall to 2-3 on the season after suffering a disappointing 24-16 Week 5 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on “Thursday Night Football.” It's led to plenty of takes about how poor the defense is, but Colin Cowherd seems to be much more concerned about the coaching staff Jerry Jones has put together instead.
During the latest episode of “The Herd,” the famed sports analyst blasted the Cowboys' owner and general manager for not spending the money to acquire a competent coaching staff. Cowherd claims that Jones is seemingly willing to spend up on nearly everything except the coaches.
“In a salary cap league, there's a ceiling, right? There's two places where you can spend all you want, and it doesn't count against the cap,” Cowherd said. “Coaching staffs and front offices. Head coaches and GMs. And the Cowboys go cheap on those. Jerry didn't go cheap on his yacht, his helicopter, his stadium, his practice facility.
“They pay top of the market for quarterback, defensive tackles, and wide receivers. He goes cheap on the staff,” Cowherd continued. “Let me just say this: my belief is, and I think this is fairly obvious, so it's not a revelation. This is not Watergate or something, folks. Strong coaches push back, and Jerry doesn't like the pushback.”

Colin Cowherd backs his opinion by declaring that the Cowboys' approach to building the organization is the opposite of that of the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers. Cowherd seemingly believes the 83-year-old owner and general manager needs to find a way to adjust his strategy, and quickly.
It's still early in the season, but the defense does not look improved whatsoever. Regardless, the Cowboys will have a chance to right the ship in Week 6 when they take on the Green Bay Packers on the road.
