On Sunday afternoon, the Los Angeles Chargers dropped to 0-4 on the young 2026 NFL season with a tough road loss at the hands of the reigning Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. Although Los Angeles battled to make the final score more respectable, they were never truly in control of a game they wound up losing 30-23.
One of the many pundits smashing the panic button on Los Angeles' spiraling season is former NFL player Gerald McCoy, who recently relayed his thoughts on an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show.
“Yeah, it's panic time because you brought in the QB whisperer… (Chargers fans) live in this delusional world where Justin Herbert is a top-five quarterback, and I said no. He has top-five talent. He's extremely talented. He hasn't shown us that he can be a top-five quarterback… yes, they should be panicking,” he said, per Dan Patrick on X, formerly Twitter.
Article Continues BelowHerbert has long been considered one of the polarizing players in the NFL, with some pundits salivating over his arm talent and showering him with excuses for why his teams haven't been able to get it done in the biggest moments, while others place the blame solely on him for Los Angeles' playoff shortcomings. He didn't help himself by tossing an interception on the first play from scrimmage on Sunday.
It's not looking like Herbert will get the opportunity to shut down his playoff narrative this year, as Los Angeles is already fully behind the eight-ball this season, with a gauntlet of a schedule coming up over the next several weeks.
The Chargers will continue their bloodbath next Sunday with a home game against the AFC West rival Denver Broncos.
