The Chicago White Sox are on the verge of securing a postseason berth, but they'll have to move forward without Luis Castillo.

Chicago announced Thursday that it placed Castillo on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder impingement before its series finale against the Kansas City Royals. Right-hander Tyler Davis was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte in the corresponding move.

The timing certainly isn't ideal, although Castillo hasn't exactly been pitching like someone the White Sox could trust in October.

Castillo owns a 5.85 ERA across 130 2/3 innings this season and has struggled since Chicago acquired him from the Seattle Mariners at the trade deadline. The veteran right-hander was brought in to strengthen a White Sox rotation preparing for a postseason run, but things haven't worked out as planned.
