The Miami Heat have finally gotten off the schneid. On Wednesday night, the Heat broke through and got their first win of the 2026-27 season, coming into the Atlanta Hawks' home at State Farm Arena and earning a 129-117 victory. For the first time this season, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo looked good together, which the Heat will take as the biggest win to come out of their victory against the Hawks.
Adebayo, in particular, has had his fair share of difficulties in adjusting to life alongside Antetokounmpo. But on Wednesday, he put up 24 points, three assists, and nine rebounds while shooting 8-of-16 from the field — his best performance thus far in this new campaign.
Just to add more cause for celebration, Adebayo, by hauling in nine boards on the night, became the Heat franchise's all-time leader in rebounds — surpassing Udonis Haslem. He needed just seven rebounds to do so, and late in the fourth quarter, he accomplished the feat.

Adebayo now has 5,794 rebounds for his career, giving him three more than his former Heat teammate. Time has flown by fast, as Adebayo has become the franchise's all-time leader in boards in the early goings of his 10th NBA season. Meanwhile, it took Haslem 20 seasons to get to his total, but he essentially spent the final eight seasons of his career as a designated locker room leader who rarely got minutes.
Article Continues BelowThe Heat have declared Adebayo a franchise legend, and this latest feat just shows how important of a player the 29-year-old is for this franchise. Despite Adebayo and the team's early struggles with Antetokounmpo on the roster, they are surely going to exhaust all options in their quest to figure it out.
Through the first five games of the 2026-27 season, Adebayo is averaging 14.2 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game along with 2.2 steals and 0.6 blocks.
