The Minnesota Vikings have started the 2026 season exactly as planned. Minnesota is 3-0 to start the year after taking care of Tampa Bay in Week 3. Now the Vikings have added one more player to the roster to reinforce their most important position.
The Vikings have signed backup quarterback Max Brosmer from the practice squad to the active roster, per Tom Pelissero.
Brosmer will take the place of J.J. McCarthy on the 53-man roster after he was traded to the Giants on Monday. The NFL allows each team to dress one emergency No. 3 quarterback without actually activating them on game day. Brosmer will step into that role for Minnesota while sitting behind Kyler Murray and Carson Wentz.
The 25-year-old is one of many quarterbacks who the Vikings went through in 2025. He did not play particularly well, logging 328 passing yards with no touchdowns and four interceptions in eight games played.
Brosmer is clearly not talented enough to win the team's starting job. But a QB3 role is perfect for the young quarterback, who can grow behind veterans in Murray and Wentz.
The Vikings have not had a very stable quarterback position for the second season in a row. But they haven't struggled to win games so far this year. Minnesota has won with both Murray and Wentz under center, which should have fans confident about the team's depth. The Vikings are one step ahead of most other teams with Brosmer installed as a solid QB3.
Whoever is under center, it will help to have Justin Jefferson back as soon as possible. Jefferson suffered an ankle sprain in Week 3 and should not be out for long. There's even a chance he could be back on Sunday.
