The Golden State Valkyries scripted history by winning the WNBA championship by beating the Atlanta Dream 4-3. Gabby Williams was the star of the show and won the Finals MVP after averaging close to 20 points through the series, and producing a record-breaking 30-point display in Game 7.

Her heroics seem to have gotten the attention of none other than Chicago Bulls legend and suspected GOAT Michael Jordan. The 6-time NBA champion, according to Williams, texted her earlier on Monday to congratulate her on the win, per a post on X by ESPN’s Kendra Andrews.

And well, there is no doubt that she deserves every bit of the adulation. Williams carried her team’s offence on her back in Game 7, and made an equally impressive impact on the defensive end of the court.

28 of her 30 points came in the second half, a WNBA Finals record, as she scored almost half of her team’s 68 points. The Valkyries had entered the second half with a six-point deficit, and were trailing by as many as nine at one point in the third quarter.

However, Williams eventually took charge, adding 15 points in the third quarter and another 13 in the fourth to land Golden State their first-ever title. The two-time All-Star returned with a stacked statline, also adding three rebounds, four blocks, two assists and two steals in what proved to be one of the most memorable WNBA Finals performances of all time.

Golden State’s second-highest scorer on the night was Tiffany Hayes, who added 11 points, while Veronica Burton finished with a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds. Williams, who shot 10-23 from the field, is likely to continue getting congratulatory messages for the time being.

However, getting a message from Jordan himself will undoubtedly be the cherry on top.
