Texas Tech was looking to rebound from its loss to Cincinnati when they faced Arizona on Saturday. Before the game, Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire decided to make a change at quarterback. Tommy Castellanos got the start over Will Hammond on Saturday, leading Texas Tech to the 34-26 victory.

Now, McGuire has made a decision on who will be starting at quarterback against West Virginia, per Pete Nakos of On3.

“Texas Tech lists Thomas Castellanos as QB1 on its depth chart this week. Red Raiders host West Virginia on Saturday,” Nakos posted on X, formerly Twitter.

Will Hammond was the starting quarterback for the Red Raiders after Brendan Sorsby was found to be ineligible due to a gambling scandal. He led the Red Raiders to a 6-0 start, but it had not been great. Then, against Cincinnati, he passed for 227 yards and an interception without a touchdown. He has passed for 1,561 yards and six touchdowns with six interceptions so far this year. This led the Red Raiders to make a change at quarterback.

This year, he has passed for 189 yards and four touchdowns while running for 182 yards and three scores. Castellanos is with his fourth school after getting an extra year of eligibility. He has played for UCF, Boston College, and Florida State prior to joining Texas Tech this year.
