OKLAHOMA CITY — After Oklahoma City Thunder's Shai Gilgeous-Alexander out-ran Jared McCain in a video that went viral during training camp, the third-year guard explained himself on Friday. Amidst McCain's first training camp with the Thunder, Jared addressed reporters for the first time since Media Day.
McCain reacted to Gilgeous-Alexander's dusting him in a video that went viral on X, formerly Twitter, per The Suave Report's Addam Francisco.
“Everybody's sending me that,” McCain said, laughing. “No defending. It wasn't a race. What's funny is, right before I almost caught a cramp. When you almost catch a cramp, it looks like he's running super hard. He's fast. Like I said, I wasn't running 100 percent, but I'm not gonna say I'd beat him in a race.”
Jalen Williams said last season that Shai was the fastest on the team and I lowkey thought he was crazy.

While on the topic of which Thunder player is the fastest, Jared McCain answered, Jalen Williams, with confidence.

As for Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault, his guess was Cason Wallace, but says he could be wrong, based on past experiences with his coaching staff.
“I think Cason would be my answer, but I don't know,” Daigneault said. “Back when we had Tre Mann, the strength coaches were like, ‘Tre Mann's the fastest guy on the team,' and I never would have guessed that. But functional basketball speed, I'd say Cason.”
Outside of the viral moment with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, McCain's had a productive training camp, as Daigneault revealed how Jared's impressed him throughout the week as one of the team's most-driven guards in camp.
