Chiefs defensive back Chamarri Conner is set to make his 2026 debut on Sunday.

Conner missed the first three games with a knee injury.

He led the team in defensive snap percentage last season and is a favorite of defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. Conner can play nickel or safety.

“It seems like every year he’s been here — and we’ve done cut-ups at the end of the season and we’re looking through the film — 27 keeps showing up, making plays,” Spagnuolo said, via Pete Sweeney of The Kansas City Star. “Hopefully, we can get him back there doing that. I think he’s a really good tackler and a good football player.

“We’ll fit him in there, whether it’s a safety or nickel in certain packages. And I like having him on the field, and I’m hoping we get him for this game.”

Jaden Hicks and Alohi Gilman have started at safety in Conner’s absence, and Hicks has played every snap.

Starting left tackle Josh Simmons will miss his fourth consecutive game to start the season. He has a bulging disc in his lower back.

Undrafted rookie Khalil Benson has started in Simmons’ stead.
