49ers wide receiver Mike Evans is questionable to play in Sunday’s game against the Broncos after a limited practice Friday. He is going to try to play with a built-in compression shirt with padding in it to protect his injured ribs.
Coach Kyle Shanahan called Evans a “game-time decision.”
“I’m going to do my best [to play],” Evans said, via David Bonilla of 49erswebzone.com.
He has previously played through something similar.
Evans said he isn’t certain exactly when he injured his ribs, but it didn’t feel good.
“That shit hurt bad,” Evans said. “It was like non-contact. It might have happened before, but when I ran a route, and I turned, I just felt it, like, ‘Ah!’ Felt like somebody stabbed me in my chest.
“But it’s cool. The training staff and doctors did a good job of getting me off the field and making sure I was good.”
Shanahan broke his ribs in a car wreck this summer, so he sympathizes with Evans.
“Mine are good now, but it’s been two months, and I would not be questionable,” Shanahan said. “I would be out, without a doubt. But he’s definitely a lot tougher than me, so hopefully we’ve got a shot.”
The 49ers ruled out defensive linemen Nick Bosa (knee/calf), James Thompson Jr. (ankle) and Mykel Williams (knee).
Left tackle Trent Williams (neck) does not have an injury designation.
Defensive end Keion White (hamstring), linebacker Dre Greenlaw (quad) and linebacker Jaden Dugger (shoulder) are questionable. Dugger was a new addition to the injury report Friday.
