The Jacksonville Jaguars took care of business once again in Week 4. Jacksonville held off Cincinnati in a 22-17 win and improved to 3-1 on the season. As the 2026 season progresses, it is becoming abundantly clear which position the Jaguars prefer to play Travis Hunter in during his sophomore campaign.
Jacksonville's two-way star was billed as both a cornerback and wide receiver coming out of the draft. But he appears to almost exclusively play cornerback during his time in the NFL.
In fact, every single snap that Hunter played against the Bengals was on the defensive side of the ball. Yes, 100% of Hunter's 76 snaps came at cornerback and none at the wide receiver position.
Hunter did split some time between offense and defense as a rookie. He moonlighted on the offensive side, logging 28 receptions for 298 receiving yards and a touchdown through seven games. At the same time, he put up solid defensive production too. However, all of that has changed during the first four games of this season.
Hunter only has one reception for eight yards and one carry for three yards on the offensive side of the ball in 2026. Meanwhile, he's been getting almost all of his reps on defense. That was especially surprising in Week 4 after Cincinnati lost Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins to injuries. If there was ever a time to sprinkle Hunter in on offense, that was it.
Article Continues BelowThe clues were there starting in Week 1. During the season opener, Hunter only played 7% of offensive snaps.
Jaguars fans should not get their hopes up about anything changing anytime soon. Head coach Liam Coen declared that he doesn't care where Hunter was draft, he just wants to win football games. If Jacksonville's coaching staff doesn't care about getting less out of Hunter then this could simply be the new normal for him.
Either way, the Jaguars are winning games this season. They are 3-1 and in sole possession of first place in the AFC South division standings.
Next up for Jacksonville is a Week 5 matchup against the Eagles.
