The Dallas Cowboys are finally looking like the team fans hoped for during the offseason. Dallas is now 2-2 after crushing Houston 34-30 in Week 4 thanks to a complete effort from all three phases. The Cowboys took a step forward on defense despite allowing 30 points and their new cornerback deserves some of the credit.
Cowboys cornerback Joey Porter Jr. open up about how he felt during his debut in Dallas against the Texans.
“When I was out there, I was comfortable with the calls,” Porter said after the game, per The Athletic's Jon Machota. “The defense was helping me. (Caleb Downs and Malik Hooker) were talking to me all game. Without them, I wouldn’t have even been able to play out there.”
Porter played 24 defensive snaps on Sunday after being traded from the Steelers on September 30th. It was impressive that Porter was able to suit up so quickly and wasn't overwhelmed with a new playbook.
The veteran cornerback did not light up the stat sheet, but he still made his presence felt. Machota noted that Texans QB C.J. Stroud did not want to target receivers who Porter was defending. Instead, Stroud chose to pick on DaRon Bland.
Now Porter is excited to get more involved on defense and establish himself as a star player.

Ideally, the Cowboys could give Porter a full week of practice before upping his workload. However, Dallas has a short week as they prepare to play on Thursday Night Football.
It will be interesting to see if Dallas gives Porter more snaps during his second game later this week.
The Cowboys have a short week before taking on the Buccaneers in Week 5. That primetime game kicks off at 8:15 p.m. ET on Oct. 8 from AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
