Contender Series 2026 Week 9 continues with a fight between Nell Ariano and Preston LaGrange in the light heavyweight division. Check out our Contender Series odds series for our Ariano-LaGrange prediction and pick.
Nell Ariano (6-0) defeated Norbert Pietrzak by unanimous decision in July, following November’s third-round TKO of Riku Urholin with elbows and punches. Those Cage Warriors victories showcase his ability to finish late or win over three rounds, as he comes into his fight this week against Preston LaGrange on Tuesday.
Preston LaGrange (6-1) submitted Dylan Diebitz with a second-round rear-naked choke at LFA 237 in July, following April’s first-round rear-naked choke victory over Derek Benoit at XFC 54. Consecutive submissions mark a strong rebound from January’s knockout loss, as he comes into his fight this week against Nell Ariano Tuesday.

Nell Ariano arrives at Dana White's Contender Series Week 9 with a perfect 6-0 record, and every one of those wins came under the Cage Warriors banner. That run gives the French light heavyweight the kind of unbeaten résumé the UFC looks for on this stage.
Four of his six victories have ended by knockout or TKO, and the other two went to the scorecards. He carries real power and has also shown he can win rounds over a full fight.
The matchup favors that power. Preston LaGrange is 6-1 with four submission wins, so Ariano's best route is to keep the fight standing and make LaGrange pay for every entry.
LaGrange also stepped in on short notice, replacing Ivan Gnizditskiy. A shortened camp could affect his pace and cardio if Ariano drags him into the later minutes.
The most realistic path starts with sharp distance management and punishing leg and body work early. From there, Ariano can look to stay disciplined on the feet and avoid giving up a scramble.
LaGrange has won his last two by submission, so one lapse on the mat could swing the fight. Even so, Ariano's striking, recent form and competition level give him a credible edge.
Why Preston LaGrange Will Win
Article Continues BelowPreston LaGrange comes into Dana White's Contender Series Week 9 with a 6-1 record and a perfect finishing rate. All six of his wins ended inside the distance, and his average finish comes in about the first round and a half.
His recent run shows that danger. He submitted Dylan Diebitz in round two in July and Benoit in round one in April, after back-to-back first-round knockouts earlier.
That submission game is the clearest edge in this matchup. LaGrange has four submission wins, while Nell Ariano has none.
Ariano's offense is built on power, with four of his six wins by knockout. If LaGrange can close distance, tie up and drag the fight to the mat, he takes away Ariano's best weapon.
LaGrange is also a legitimate finisher in the first round, and Ariano's knockouts have mostly come in rounds two and three. An early scramble could put the Frenchman in unfamiliar territory.
The most realistic path is a fast start with takedown entries, then back-taking and submission hunting. The risk is the stand-up exchanges, since LaGrange's only loss came by knockout and Ariano is the heavier hitter.
Final Nell Ariano-Preston LaGrange Prediction & Pick
Nell Ariano is my pick to beat Preston LaGrange, with his unbeaten record providing the foundation for a decision prediction. Ariano enters at 6-0 against LaGrange’s 6-1, but the deciding factor should be who consistently controls the exchanges rather than whose record looks better.
I expect Ariano to prioritize measured pressure, keeping his positioning disciplined instead of chasing an early finish and exposing his neck. LaGrange’s best opportunity would come from turning those exchanges into grappling sequences, where a scramble could change the fight quickly.
For Ariano, patience will matter more than aggression, particularly when separating from clinches or returning to his feet after a takedown. If he avoids extended submission battles, he can make LaGrange repeatedly reset and build rounds through cleaner offensive stretches.
This looks competitive enough that neither fighter should be dismissed outright, especially early. Ultimately, I favor Ariano’s controlled approach to deliver a unanimous decision.
Final Nell Ariano-Preston LaGrange Prediction & Pick: Nell Ariano (-215)
