The Seattle Seahawks are looking get the sour taste of a Week 3 loss to the Washington Commanders out of their mouth in Week 4 when they return home to take on the Los Angeles Chargers. Seattle has had the same fearsome defense as it had last season, but the offense has become even more centered around Jaxon Smith-Njigba than it was a year ago when he won Offensive Player of the Year.
Smith-Njigba is the NFL's leading receiver through three weeks with 405 yards on 27 catches, and he has already found the end zone six times this season. He has gotten over 100 yards receiving with at least one touchdown in all three games so far, making this one of the best starts to a season by a wide receiver in NFL history.
If Smith-Njigba goes over 100 yards and scores a touchdown again on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers, he will tie Randy Moss from 2007 for the longest such streak to start a season in the Super Bowl era, per Adam Schefter.
Smith-Njigba had a historic 2025 season, winning OPOY and leading the Seahawks to the Super Bowl as one of the best players in football regardless of position. He finished that campaign with 119 catches for 1,793 yards and 10o touchdowns.
Article Continues BelowOf course, there was a lot of change in Seattle this offseason, which led some to question whether Smith-Njigba would be able to replicate the season he had a year ago. Offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is gone and has been replaced by Brian Fleury, and Sam Darnold missed nearly two games with an injury that forced Drew Lock into the lineup early in the year.
Despite that, Smith-Njigba is still putting up historic numbers this season. He is on pace to soar over 2,000 yards on more than 150 catches, and his current pace would put him over 30 touchdowns. All of those would be NFL records.
Of course, Smith-Njigba is unlikely to keep that pace all season. Regardless, he has proven to be one of the best players in the NFL once again in 2026.
