The Minnesota Timberwolves are just over two weeks away from kicking off their 2026-27 NBA season. The Timberwolves come into this season with a new-look roster after salary dumping Julius Randle and trading for Charlotte Hornets point guard LaMelo Ball this offseason, in addition to other moves.

Recently, franchise star Anthony Edwards revealed the one specific area where he thinks Minnesota can thrive this season.

“We’re sharing the ball a lot. I think defensively we can really be a super team on that end,” he said, per TalkBasket.net.

Funnily enough, most pundits seem to think that the Timberwolves took a step back defensively this year when they opted to trade for Ball, sacrificing some size in the form of Naz Reid in exchange for a much more dynamic playmaker and shooter to pair with Edwards in the backcourt.

Minnesota did rebound by adding some more defensive versatility via their signing of Jonathan Kuminga, in addition to bringing back last year's trade acquisition, Ayo Dosunmu.

“Ayo is from Chicago. So, he brings that grittiness, that toughness that I love that we needed for years,” Edwards said. “The main thing about Ayo is he always comes to play.”

The Timberwolves are coming off a second round playoff series loss to the San Antonio Spurs, a series in which Edwards was clearly limited but still helped Minnesota push San Antonio to six games.

This year, the pressure will be on for the Timberwolves to take a step forward, and all eyes will be on the synergy between Ball and Edwards in the backcourt, which could take some time to develop.

In any case, the Timberwolves will kick off their new season on October 21 on the road vs the Miami Heat.
