The Houston Texans are not in a good position while on their bye week. Houston is just 2-5 on the season after an embarrassing overtime loss against the Giants in Week 7. The hope that Houston could go on an extended winning streak like last season seems to be evaporating quickly. As such, some Texans fans may even have their eyes on the offseason.

The Texans currently only have four selections ahead of the 2027 NFL Draft. Houston used their second-round pick to acquire Marvin Harrison Jr. and spent fifth- and sixth-round picks in previous deals. They still hold their most important pick of all, but only having four total selections is not a good situation.

At this point, Houston is projected to land the fourth overall pick in the draft. That would give them the option to pick an elite player, or trade down the board to get more picks.

But which positions could the Texans target in the draft? And are there specific prospects who fans should keep an eye on over the next few months?

Here is a way-too-early Texans 2027 mock draft to entertain fans during the bye week, courtesy of the PFF mock draft simulator.

Round 1, Pick 4: CB Leonard Moore, Notre Dame

As noted above, this could easily be a trade down in real life. But Houston could certainly get tempted to add another blue-chip player to their incredible defense.

Cornerback may not jump out as a huge position of need for the Texans. After all, they'll still have Derek Stingley Jr., Jalen Pitre, and Kamari Lassiter under contract for the 2027 season. Still, it doesn't hurt to have a surplus of talent at the position.

The Fighting Irish cornerback is widely regarded as the best cover corner in this draft class. He thrives in man coverage but holds up well in zone too. Moore can press receivers at the line and has a knack for breaking up passes and snagging interceptions. His elite upside while in coverage could make him a top pick in the draft.

Moore suffered a concussion on October 3rd and did not play against Stanford. Fortunately, he returned against BYU and is looking pretty solid. His medical report from the NFL Scouting Combine could be a big piece of his draft stock.

Regardless, the possibility of pairing Stingley with another elite cornerback is quite intriguing. Even more so when considering how good Houston's front seven can play when firing on all cylinders.

This is an excellent pick that makes Houston's greatest strength even stronger.

Round 3, Pick 70: DT Jayden Jackson, Oklahoma

Jackson projects as a mix of a nose tackle and defensive tackle in the NFL. He has solid size at 6-foot-2, 322 pounds but is a bit smaller than guys like Vita Vea that can two-gap with pure power.

While Jackson has flashed some potential as a pass rusher, he's only worth drafting for his run defense skills. Jackson holds up well at the point of attack and can be quite disruptive on early downs. However, he likely wouldn't get any run on third downs as a rookie unless it is an obvious running situation.

Adding Jackson alongside Kayden McDonald would give the Texans two solid run defenders on the interior to build around.

Round 4, Pick 103: RB Fluff Bothwell, Mississippi State

It's hard to get too excited about a fourth-round running back. But Houston desperately needs another guy at the position.

David Montgomery has not lived up to expectations in 2026. He may stick around next season, but purely as a depth piece. Meanwhile, Woody Marks has been solid but only looks like a rotational player.

If the Texans want to keep having a committee approach, they could really use a power back like Bothwell.

Bothwell has been pretty efficient as a runner this season, averaging 5.6 yards per carry. PFF grades him quite favorably, giving him an excellent rushing grade that is one of the best in the nation. So why hasn't he been more productive throughout his collegiate career?

Realistically, Bothwell may stay in college for one more season to improve his draft stock. But if he declares, and is still there in round four, then this would be a very reasonable gamble by Houston.

Round 7, Pick 218: EDGE Teitum Tuioti, Oregon

The Texans can't stop investing on the edges despite still having Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter.

Looking ahead at 2027, Sabastian Harsh is the only depth piece under contract behind Anderson and Hunter. Some type of investment in a depth piece will be necessary, be it an established veteran or a rookie.

Houston spends a late-round pick on Tuioti, a fascinating edge prospect who has shown flashes of potential for the Ducks. He almost hit 10 sacks last season and is on pace for similar production this fall. Beyond sacks, he excels at simply creating pressures. That is an underrated ability in general, but it could be especially useful for Houston because it helps the rest of their talented pass rushers. Tuioti is also quite good as a run defender.

It would be a minor miracle if Tuioti was still available this late in the draft. But in this scenario, the Texans thank their lucky stars to get a deal in the seventh round.
