With the city’s WNBA revival team returning to Houston, everybody wants to know what Rockets superstar Kevin Durant has to say about the ongoing situation in the league.

Durant has never been shy about supporting the women’s league, and he made his stance clear again when the league's recent political controversy came up at the Rockets Media Day.

Durant was asked Tuesday about the outside attention surrounding the WNBA, including the debate over transgender athletes and the recent actions of former NBA players Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White.

“All that stuff is just noise, man,” he said. “The WNBA is flourishing. Look what these women are doing. You know, look at the money they’ve made over the last few years. Look at the visibility of their league. They got four or five signature athletes that are representing major brands. These women have brands for themselves. They’re businesswomen for themselves outside of the game.”

The comments come during a season in which the WNBA has faced more attention away from the court. Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham's comments about transgender athletes helped fuel the debate, while Kanter Freedom and White later announced plans connected to the 2027 WNBA Draft.

Kanter Freedom also became involved in a public dispute with Sky guard Natasha Cloud during a game in August. Durant did not try to settle that debate.

“So, a lot of this stuff, you know, the politics that they bring into sports nowadays, I understand the messaging behind what they trying to do,” Durant said. “But a person like me who just strictly cares for the purity of the sport, I do not give a f*** about none of that. I care about flourishing and pushing the league forward, and that’s what’s happening right now.”

That has been consistent with Durant's long-standing support of women's basketball. With the Comets re-entering the WNBA next season, focus remains on the league, away from all the controversies.
