The Detroit Red Wings suspended forward Dylan Larkin on Thursday after their former captain said he would not play again until he is traded.

Larkin, 30, requested a trade from the team over the summer. The Michigan native, who has spent his entire NHL career in Detroit, was stripped of his captaincy on Sept. 11.

Larkin played in 10 games this season before Thursday's decision.

"Dylan's had enough of the situation," Larkin's agent, Pat Brisson of CAA, told TSN in a statement. "We believe he's been very professional and cooperative through this process."

Red Wings interim general manager Shawn Horcoff followed with a statement Thursday evening before a home game against Chicago.

"Dylan Larkin has informed us that he will no longer play for the Detroit Red Wings. We are disappointed by his decision, particularly given his obligations to the organization and his teammates. We have therefore suspended Dylan without pay," Horcoff said.

"We will continue to explore trade opportunities involving Dylan," Horcoff added. "In addition to needing his approval, any trade must also be in the best interest of the Detroit Red Wings and support the organization's long-term goals.

"I want to thank and commend our coaches and players for their continued focus, and being committed to competing every day."

Larkin missed practice on Wednesday for what was called a maintenance day at the time.

The two-way center has six points (two goals, four assists) in 10 games while playing in the fourth season of an eight-year, $69.6 million contract.

Larkin has totaled 649 points (278 goals, 371 assists) in 818 career games since being selected with the 15th overall pick by the Red Wings in the 2014 NHL Draft.
