The Las Vegas Raiders (3-4) and New York Jets (2-5) meet up in Week 9 for one of the under-the-radar games. We could see a classic shootout between a 36-year-old Geno Smith and 38-year-old Kirk Cousins, or a low-scoring battle between two teams that rank bottom five in touchdowns converted in the red zone. This game could go a lot of ways, and that’s probably why New York is a small -1.5 point favorite.

Las Vegas’ run of death row opponents is over! That’s the best news for them. The Raiders played the Chiefs (30-27), Patriots (45-17), Bills (33-30), and Rams (35-21) over the last four games, all losses. Three of those four games were at home, but now Vegas heads East to New Jersey to take on the Jets. Outside of the wins over the Dolphins and Chargers in Weeks 1 and 2, the Jets have the worst record of any opponent the Raiders have faced. With Kirk Cousins’ leash starting to shorten as the losses begin to accumulate, this might be a must-win for the Raiders quarterback.

Aaron Glenn is on the hot seat, but when hasn’t he been? The Jets’ two-minute drill woes continued, and this staff continues to find ways to lose. New York lost to Miami 28-25 last week as they tried to dig out of 21-7 and 28-17 deficits. The Jets have a lot of young players that have had to step up lately, but boy, have they been impressive. Braelon Allen had 134 total yards (104 rushing), Omar Cooper Jr. posted 5 receptions for 115 yards and a touchdown, plus Mason Taylor scored twice on five catches for 62 yards. The Jets are 1-5 over the last six games and 5-19 since Glenn took over as head coach, tied for the second-worst (Titans are 4-20 since the start of 2025).

Let’s dive into the numbers and see if we can’t find an additional sweat or two.

Expert picks & predictions for Jets vs Raiders

Vaughn Dalzell (@VmoneySports) leans Garrett Wilson’s over 56.5 receiving yards:

“Garrett Wilson‘s interview went viral this week surrounding trade rumors, and he was quoted saying he loves the Jets, but loves winning more. I expect him to be peppered with targets, especially after a quiet game against the Dolphins. He was only targeted three times, which is unacceptable. When he gets at least seven targets, he’s recorded 57, 79, 104, and 107 yards this season. I think he could get seven or more targets here, so I lean toward the Over 56.5 receiving yards and this could spike if Breece Hall or Braelon Allen are out.”

Quarterback matchup for Jets vs Raiders

· Las Vegas: Kirk Cousins – During the Raiders’ four-game losing streak, Cousins had seven passing touchdowns to two interceptions and averaged 304.0 passing yards per game. Despite playing some of the NFL’s best teams and now going on the road to take on the Jets, Cousins may not have an easier matchup just because the Jets have a losing record. The Jets run the eight-most man coverage, and Cousins ranks 32nd in completion percentage (48.5%), 23rd in passer rating (81.0), and 34th in catchable rate (54.6%) versus man coverage. Cousins has also had issues when blitzed. He ranks 30th in completion percentage when blitzed (53.8%) and 31st in catchable ball rate (57.7%). The Jets blitz at the fourth-highest rate (40%), so this could be a tougher matchup for Cousins than most people expect.

· New York: Geno Smith – Smith tied a season-high with three touchdown passes against the Dolphins and his second interception. Smith has thrown picks in back-to-back weeks, which has been a concern the past few years. Smith threw a career-high 17 interceptions in 2025 after 15 in 2024. Smith has the ninth-most danger plays on the season, but it hasn’t translated to picks, so maybe he’s just having good luck with turnovers this season. If Allen and/or Hall are out, you can expect Smith to be chucking on Sunday. He’s thrown 30 passes in three straight games, but I’d expect that streak to be broken against the Raiders. Smith’s attempts line is 30.5, and his yards are 220.5. He could fly over those without Hall or Allen.
