The Detroit Red Wings have had a difficult season to this point and they find themselves tied for the bottom spot in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. In addition to trying to find a winning formula, they have had to deal with the trade demand of Dylan Larkin, their former captain.
After making his demand public, Larkin played multiple games for the Red Wings before he let them know that he was not reporting to practice. As a result, the Red Wings have suspended Larkin without pay.
“Dylan Larkin has informed us that he will no longer play for the Detroit Red Wings,” interim GM Shawn Horcoff said in a statement. “We are disappointed by his decision, particularly given his obligations to the organization and his teammates. We have therefore suspended Dylan without pay.”
They are still trying to trade him, but Larkin has a list of just 10 teams that are on his accepted trade list.
According to Horcoff, the limited number of teams on Larkin's trade list makes it more difficult for the Red Wings to make an acceptable trade. Horcoff has said on multiple occasions that the Red Wings would only make a deal that is beneficial to the team.
Horcoff said he appreciated the effort that Larkin demonstrated in the 10 games that he has played this season for Detroit. Larkin had 2 goals and 4 assists in those games.
Alex DeBrincat leads the team in scoring with 6 goals and 7 assists in 12 games. Veteran forwards Lucas Raymond and Viktor Arvidsson are right behind DeBrincat with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
