The Detroit Red Wings are going through a lot on and off the ice. They are winless in the 2026-27 NHL season following a loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday. They hit the road for the first time on Tuesday in search of their first win. Before that, though, Shawn Horcoff's interim front office is being shaken up again.
Assistant general manager Kris Draper is taking over pro scouting duties, according to Max Bultman of The Athletic. Draper was previously in charge of amateur scouting. In his place, chief amateur scout Jesse Wallin will take over the amateur scouting department. Bultman notes these changes are in place until Detroit's front office is finalized.
Draper is a former player who enjoyed his best years with the Red Wings. He was infamously traded by the first iteration of the Jets to Detroit in 1993 in exchange for $1 USD. He went on to win four Stanley Cups in Hockeytown.
Article Continues BelowWallin is also a former player. The former first-round pick spent his entire four-year playing career with the Red Wings. He was head coach of the WHL's Red Deer Rebels from 2008 to 2012. He also spent time with the St. Louis Blues as an amateur scout.
The Red Wings are trying to dig themselves out of quite a hole. Dylan Larkin and Simon Edvinsson reportedly want trades. And the team's on-ice play has not been the greatest. Perhaps these front-office changes can help spark some sort of change around the Motor City as the season gets underway.
