The Baltimore Ravens are in a dire situation approaching the NFL trade deadline. Baltimore fell to 4-5 after losing to Jacksonville on Thursday Night Football in Week 9. Despite all of the adversity, one NFL insider is not convinced that Baltimore should give up on their season.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport explained why he doesn't think the Ravens will have a fire sale despite Lamar Jackson's injuries.
“I don't see the Ravens in sell mode. And the reason why I say that is because Jacoby Brissett's trade is going to be official this morning. He is going to be their starting quarterback when the Ravens take the field on Monday against the Los Angeles Chargers,” Rapoport said on Friday via Good Morning Football. “If he can keep them afloat, this is a team that's roster is good enough to actually make the playoffs with Jacoby Brissett. He has never played on a roster this talented. He is not perfect, he obviously got benched at Arizona, that is what it is. But good enough to come out here and keep this team alive. And if this team is alive, we'll see what happens. So no, I do not believe the Ravens are in sell mode. I don't think they're in buy mode either.”
Lamar Jackson is on injured reserve with multiple injuries and Tyler Huntley is done for the season. All hope now rests on Jacoby Brissett, who will officially become a Raven on Friday.
The Brissett trade in and of itself is revealing of where the Ravens think they stand. But beyond that, the Ravens won't have an opportunity to see how Brissett functions in their offense before the NFL trade deadline passes. As a result, they are stuck in competitive mode for the rest of the season.
Fortunately, the Ravens have a star-studded roster that should help them remain in contention. That said, they'll have to start winning games in a hurry just to get back over .500 on the season.
Next up for the Ravens is a Week 10 matchup against the Chargers on Monday Night Football.
