Sean McVay took the Los Angeles Rams’ heartbreaking loss to the Buffalo Bills personally. His postgame actions reportedly revealed just how much the defeat hurt. Following Monday night’s 37-34 overtime thriller at SoFi Stadium, the Rams head coach walked around the locker room shaking every starter’s hand. He told them he appreciated their effort.
“First time I've seen this,” longtime Rams beat writer Adam Grosbard reported, describing McVay’s unusual gesture. The coach also admitted he was “sick” about how the game ended. He took responsibility for decisions that helped put Los Angeles in position to lose.
“I'm sick that we came up short and I'll be regretting kicking that and not having a better call to be able to go for it on third down and go to fourth or whatever it was. And that's on me,” McVay said.

Harrison Mevis’ potential overtime winner was blocked by Buffalo’s Greg Rousseau. It allowed the Bills to set up Tyler Bass’ game-winning kick. The collapse was especially painful after Matthew Stafford threw for 383 yards and three touchdowns. Meanwhile, Puka Nacua hauled in a career-high 17 receptions. Los Angeles had the firepower to win. However, the final sequence left McVay questioning his own judgment.
The Rams are now 2-3 through five weeks of the 2026 NFL season. Their campaign has been marked by explosive offensive performances and costly late-game setbacks. After a four-touchdown showing from Stafford helped fuel a Week 2 win over the Giants, Los Angeles lost a tight contest in Denver before falling to Buffalo.
