The Baltimore Orioles missed the postseason for the second consecutive season. While Pete Alonso made a significant impact in his first season with Baltimore, the team fell short of its playoff goal. The Orioles may need to make some changes this offseason. Alonso knows the ball club needs to be better overall.

“We failed to perform and do what we were supposed to do,” Alonso said Friday, via Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Banner. “We had great moments, great individual performances, but as a whole, that's not the standard here, and it's unacceptable for us. There's a lot of things to learn from.”

Alonso, 31, signed a five-year deal with the Orioles last offseason. Although he did not make the All-Star team in 2026, his numbers have been impressive nonetheless. In fact, Alonso currently leads the American League with 41 home runs, 110 RBI and 159 games played. He has an .871 OPS as well.

“So next year, whatever needs to happen, we need to do a better job,” Alonso said. “We need to do a better job as players, because that’s what it boils down to. At the end of the day, you can have all the help, all the coaching, all the information, but it’s about getting it done between the lines, and collectively as a group, we didn’t do that. And the expectation is to be a great team.”

Pete Alonso will attempt to help the Orioles return to the playoffs next year. For now, Baltimore is focused on trying to finish this season strong.
