Penn State and head coach Matt Campbell have now lost four straight games, all of them in Big Ten play. In the four losses, Rocco Becth has struggled, throwing five interceptions. Still, Campbell is still backing Becht as the top quarterback for the Nittany Lions.
Now, Campbell is doubling down on his commitment while also speaking of the backup QB, per Mark Wogenrich of Sports Illustrated.
“We have complete faith in Rocco Becht,” Campbell said.
In seven games this year, Becht has completed 132 of 210 passes for 1,664 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also had five interceptions and was sacked ten times. Still, in the last four games, he has completed just 97 of 146 passes with three touchdowns and five interceptions. While he has struggled and Penn State keeps losing, there has been clamoring for Penn State to put in their backup, Alex Manske.
“His time will come, and when his time comes, we’ll be excited for that opportunity. But obviously that time is not right now,” Campbell said of Manske.

He completed four of five passes for 28 yards while also having a rushing touchdown. Manske then followed Campbell and Becht from Iowa State to Penn State. This year, he has completed nine of 14 passes for 102 yards.
The Nittany Lions have a bye this week and have time to work out the kinks in the offense. They will return to play on October 31 against Purdue, before closing out the season with contests against Washington, Minnesota, Rutgers, and Maryland.
