The reporting regarding Jalen Hurts' blood clot situation has been all over the place in recent days. It was initially claimed that doctors had told him to remain awake for 36 hours due to the blood clot found in his calf, but he was also given the green light to play in the Philadelphia Eagles' 19-17 Week 5 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. Hurts' agent walked back those reports a bit, as she claimed he had, in fact, gotten some sleep before kickoff. Now, it looks like NFL insider Tom Pelissero is attempting to clear the air.
During the latest episode of “The Ringer,” Pelissero went over the timeline of how everything transpired. He says that the advice for Hurts to stay awake had more to do with flying over to London than it had to do with the blood clot. Pelissero states there was a miscommunication about the no-sleep situation, and that the type of blood clot (at the time) was not deemed too serious for Hurts to miss the game. Therefore, the star quarterback and the Eagles were seemingly on the same page all along.
“Let me just give you the timeline on what actually happened once they get to London,” Pelissero said. “Remember, they fly over on Friday. Like most teams, the advice was, ‘Hey, once you get to London, stay up. Stay up all day. It's the best way to beat the jet lag.'… [Eventually], all the players are going to bed about nine or ten o'clock on Saturday night… It's right about then that this calf issue, which stems from Jalen Hurts getting cleated a week prior…
“He ends up going to a clinic that is not exactly close by. Goes and gets an ultrasound, gets these various tests. He's there 'til two, three, four in the morning… So, Jalen Hurts finally gets back to the hotel. Everybody is on the same page, in the loop. Hurts did sleep. This is where there was a miscommunication… He did get some sleep once he got back to the hotel.”

Pelissero goes on to explain that once the seven-year veteran arrived at the stadium, the Eagles set aside a room for him to get an extra hour or two of sleep before kickoff. Hurts even ran onto the field a bit late, as he was slightly behind the rest of his teammates preparing for the game.
The reporting of the organization placing Hurts on the IR is still very messy. Initially, it was claimed that he would avoid a trip to the IR, only for the Eagles to place him on the IR shortly after. As of now, Hurts is not expected to return this season.
So, there you have it. That's the confirmed timeline of how everything transpired. Had the blood clot remained in the calf, perhaps there would be a chance for the three-time Pro Bowler to return, but with the clots moving into his lungs, it's a completely different situation. The Eagles appear to be relying on Tanner McKee for the remainder of the campaign.
