The San Diego Padres are set to take on the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 2 of the NLDS at 4 p.m. EST. Initial reports had Ethan Salas in the lineup for the club, which would be a historic moment in MLB history. But manager Craig Stammen seemingly changed his mind with the game about to start.

If Salas played this game, he would be the youngest player in league history to play designated hitter in a playoff game at 20 years old, according to Dennis Lin of The Athletic. Nobody has ever played DH in the postseason at that age.

“Already the youngest player to catch a playoff game, Padres rookie Ethan Salas is making more history today,” Lin said in the initial report. “With the Brewers starting righty Logan Henderson, the left-handed batter will become the youngest player (and the first 20-year-old) to DH in the postseason.”

But nearly 40 minutes before the start of Sunday's contest, Stammen decided to sit the Florida native altogether, per Lin. Salas is considered a healthy scratch from the Padres' matchup against the Brewers.

“Apparently, Craig Stammen and the Padres changed their minds,” Lin said on X. “The team says Salas is a healthy scratch. Gavin Sheets will DH.”
