JJ Redick knows there was a lot of attention on the Los Angeles Lakers' additions this offseason. It even compelled him to make a humorous joke ahead of the 2026-27 NBA season.

Redick gears up for the third season of his head coaching career with the Lakers. He has made significant strides while helping Los Angeles navigate between different periods.

Redick and the team hosted its first press conference as they prepare to start training camp. Answering questions from media, he talked about the overall look of the roster, per reporter David Yapkowitz. Regarding the starting five, three of them will be white with Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves and Walker Kessler. Redick then made a joke about the rest of the lineup.

“JJ Redick says he is sure that 3 of his 5 starters will be Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves and Walker Kessler. Then he jokes that he is sure the other two starters will not be white guys lmao,” Yapkowitz wrote.

“I'm pretty confident in three of the spots. The other two spots will not be two white guys,” Redick said.

What lies ahead for JJ Redick, Lakers

The Lakers have moved on from the LeBron James era this summer. As a result, they have embraced a full commitment of the new era with Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.

The Lakers regrouped in the offseason, departing from James, Deandre Ayton, Marcus Smart, and Luke Kennard. They replaced them with Walker Kessler, Collin Sexton, Sandro Mamukelashveli, Quentin Grimes, Kevon Looney, and Jaden Hardy.

Los Angeles finished with a 53-29 record this past season, finishing fourth in the Western Conference standings. They took down the Houston Rockets in six games before falling to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a four-game sweep.
