The Los Angeles Clippers have waived former Auburn standout Johni Broome, ending his short stint with the franchise ahead of the 2026-27 season. Broome, who was selected 35th overall in last year's NBA Draft, joined Los Angeles after being sent by the Philadelphia 76ers in late July in a deal involving cash considerations.

The move comes as the Clippers manage a roster featuring 16 players on guaranteed contracts. Broome was considered the most likely player to be released because his contract carried the smallest guaranteed amount among those players. His agreement extends through the 2028-29 season, but only his $2.15 million salary for 2026-27 was guaranteed. As a result, Los Angeles remains responsible for that amount unless another team claims him off waivers.

Broome, 24, played just 11 NBA games for the 76ers during his rookie campaign, recording 0.9 points and 1.5 rebounds in 9.0 minutes per contest. He had a considerably larger role with the Delaware Blue Coats, Philadelphia's G League affiliate, appearing in 26 games and averaging 21.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.1 steals in 32.2 minutes per game. He shot .464 from the field, .287 from three-point range and .656 at the free-throw line.

His G League season ended early after he sustained a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee in late February and underwent a partial meniscectomy several days later. Broome later returned during the NBA playoffs, appearing in garbage-time minutes during two second-round losses to the New York Knicks.

Broome will now look for another opportunity, potentially returning to a G League role.
