The Atlanta Falcons recently fell back into the loss column with a tough home defeat at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens. In that game, quarterback Michael Penix Jr. went down after a hard shot to the ribs, causing backup quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to go into a rough spot and promptly throw an interception to end the game.

Now, the Falcons have gotten a key update on Penix Jr.'s status ahead of Week 6 against the Chicago Bears.

“#Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr is set to practice today, despite a rib injury. A good sign for his availability this weekend,” reported NFL insider Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network on X, formerly Twitter.

It's certainly a relieving sight for Falcons fans who want to see as little of Tagovailoa as possible this year after his disastrous few plays against the Ravens in the fourth quarter and overtime this past week.

Penix Jr. got off to a shaky start in the game against the Ravens but found a rhythm down the stretch, connecting with wide receiver Drake London on several big plays throughout the fourth quarter to give Atlanta a late eight-point lead.

Unfortunately for Falcons fans, the team then surrendered an impressive drive from Tyler Huntley and company to tie the game before falling in overtime.

Next up, the Falcons will be taking on a Bears team that will probably be without Caleb Williams once again. Having Penix Jr. out on the field for that one will certainly make Atlanta feel better about its chances of getting back to the .500 mark this week.
