The New England Patriots have been playing some solid football in recent weeks, improving to 3-2 over the weekend with a home win over the Las Vegas Raiders. The Patriots have won their last two games despite the injury absence of star cornerback Christian Gonzalez, who signed a lucrative new contract with the team shortly before the season began.

Now, the team has gotten a big update on Gonzalez's status heading into this week's game vs the New York Jets.

“(Gonzalez will) … try to do some stuff today. We’ll see how that goes,” said head coach Mike Vrabel during Wednesday's practice, per NFL insider Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network on X, formerly Twitter.

Gonzalez is widely viewed as being one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL today, making it all the more puzzling that the team was able to pick up two straight wins without him, including one over the Buffalo Bills on the road, after having dropped to 1-2 with him in the lineup.

The Patriots now sit at 3-2 on the season and also got another piece of positive injury news on Wednesday.

“The #Patriots are opening the practice window for A.J. Brown, Mike Vrabel said,” reported Garafolo on X.

Brown has been out of the lineup since the first half of the Patriots' Week 1 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, and having him back should help quarterback Drake Maye get into even more of a rhythm as he starts to bounce back from his rough start to the year.

In any case, the Patriots and Jets are slated to kick off on Sunday at 1:00 pm ET.
