The legal issues arising from an ugly altercation in an Indianapolis alley are moving closer to conclusion.

Via Rebecca Tauber of The Athletic, former NFL quarterback and former Fox broadcaster Mark Sanchez has reached an agreement in principle to settle the civil lawsuit filed by Perry Tole, a then-69-year-old truck driver whom Sanchez assaulted — before Tole stabbed Sanchez multiple times in self-defense.

Tole’s lawyers reportedly will file a motion to dismiss the case by January 8, 2027, which implies that all claims against all defendants (Sanchez, Fox, and the parent company of St. Elmo’s steakhouse) have been resolved.

Last month, Sanchez reached an agreement to plead guilty in his criminal case. The details of the plea, including the charges it will encompass, are not yet known.

Sanchez, a former first-round pick of the Jets who played for multiple teams, was in town to work the Week 5 game between the Raiders and the Colts.

Presumably, the final agreement will include a confidentiality agreement, which will keep the parties from saying much if anything beyond, “The matter has been resolved.”
