The Minnesota Vikings have been one of the NFL's most pleasant surprises this year. Minnesota is 5-0 to start the season and is already in complete control of the NFC North. The Vikings just got another bit of good news with their latest injury update.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano shared intel from around the league in their latest article. They covered a few important injury updates, including one that Vikings fans will love.
“Minnesota hopes to get Jordan Mason (injured reserve, thumb) back in Week 7, post-bye,” Fowler wrote on Wednesday.
Mason was placed on injured reserve back in September after suffering a thumb injury that required surgery to repair. Now he is close to being fully healthy and could return for the Vikings very soon.
Minnesota has been relying on veteran Aaron Jones as their lead back with Mason banged up. Backup DeeJay Dallas has filled in from time to time, but Jones has largely shouldered the load.
Getting Mason back could make Minnesota's rushing attack even more efficient. Mason played well in Week 1, logging 15 carries for 59 rushing yards and a touchdown. That is solid production, even though it falls well below his career average of 5.0 yards per carry.
Article Continues BelowThe Vikings won't only benefit by gaining another efficient rusher. It will also help Jones to have someone to split carries with. The 31-year-old veteran should benefit from having more time to rest and keeping his legs fresh.
It will be interesting to see if Minnesota throws Mason back into action right away. After all, a thumb injury should not stop Mason from getting back to his old self if his legs are fine.
Either way, Minnesota can rest and regroup as they are on their bye week in Week 6. Next up for the Vikings is a Week 7 matchup against the Colts.
