The Toronto Tempo have four games remaining in the regular season, but they’re going to have to play those games with All-Star guard Marina Mabrey who has been dealing with injury issues. The Tempo have already been eliminated from playoff contention, but they can still play spoiler as two of their remaining games are against teams still battling for playoff positioning.

The good news for the Tempo, however, regarding Marina Mabrey’s injury is that she will not need surgery, as per Annie Costabile of The Athletic. Mabrey is now the third Tempo player to be ruled out for the rest of the season alongside Brittany Sykes and Aneesah Morrow. She had been dealing with lingering injury issues and had missed the team’s last six games before the FIBA World Cup break.

The former Notre Dame star is in her first season with the Tempo after signing a two-year max contract this past offseason. Considered one of the WNBA’s most explosive offensive guards, Mabrey was in the midst of a breakout year in which she was named to her first All-Star selection. Earlier this season, she tied a WNBA record for most points scored in a single game with 53.

She had appeared in 32 games for the Tempo, at a little over 29 minutes per game. She was averaging a career-high 20.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists with splits of 44.1 percent shooting from the field, 38.5 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 88.1 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

The No. 19 overall pick in the 2019 WNBA Draft, Mabrey began her career with the Los Angeles Sparks, and has also played for the Dallas Wings, Chicago Sky and Connecticut Sun.
