To this point, there have been six former members of the LSU athletics department to be immortalized by the Tigers with a statue on campus, and now there will be a seventh. Hall of Fame basketball player and two-time WNBA champion Sylvia Fowles will be the next player that LSU honors with a statue, the program announced on Wednesday.

Sylvia Fowles will join former WNBA and LSU teammate and fellow Hall of Famer Seimone Augustus as the two representatives from the LSU Tigers women’s basketball program to be given a campus statue. Three of the other athletes with that honor are from the men’s basketball program in Shaquille O’Neal, Pete Maravich and Bob Pettit. The remaining two are baseball coach Skip Bertman and football star Billy Cannon whose statue is actually off-campus.

Fowles played four seasons at LSU, helping lead the Tigers to a Final Four appearance in the 2005 NCAA Tournament. During her senior year in 2008, she was named the SEC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year alongside being named to the All-SEC First Team for the third consecutive year. Her LSU accolades also include the 2005 Sixth Player of the Year Award and being named to the 2005 All-Freshman Team.
