In his tenth season as head coach of the 49ers, Kyle Shanahan is to become the coach with the most total games in franchise history.
Sunday’s game against the Broncos will be Shanahan’s 167th game as the head coach, including playoffs. He’ll pass Bill Walsh, who coached 166 games.
Shanahan has 94 wins, including the postseason. He’s eight behind Walsh and 14 behind George Seifert, who coached the 49ers for 143 games.
Today’s game also pits Shanahan against the team his father, Mike, coached to consecutive Super Bowl wins in 1997 and 1998.
Mike Shanahan was also the offensive coordinator of the 49ers from 1992 through 1994, when he was part of the coaching staff that won San Francisco’s most recent Super Bowl.
A Super Bowl is the one thing Kyle is missing. He has taken the 49ers to the Super Bowl twice.
