Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs has picked up touchdowns at a furious rate over the course of his NFL career and he kept adding to that total in last Sunday’s game against the Cardinals.
Gibbs ran for two scores in the 45-21 win and the second one moved him to 58 for his career. That also broke a tie with former Lion Barry Sanders for the most career touchdowns before the age of 25.
Gibbs finished the day with 25 carries for 151 yards and five catches for 56 yards, which led the NFL to name him the NFC offensive player of the week on Wednesday. It’s the fourth time that Gibbs has received that prize.
Sunday’s scores give Gibbs a league-high nine touchdowns for the season and that gives him a realistic chance to make a run at breaking LaDainian Tomlinson’s single-season touchdown record before Week 18 is in the books.
