If you've seen Ben Stiller recording on his phone, it's because he's filming for a documentary about the New York Knicks' championship.
While Stiller has directed films in the past, making his feature-length directorial debut in 1994 with Reality Bites, the more notable filmmaker and Knicks superfan is Spike Lee.
However, it's Stiller who is making the new documentary and not Lee, who is at almost every Knicks home game. Team owner James Dolan reportedly made the choice.
“It was Dolan. Dolan gave it to him,” Lee told Variety. “Look, it’s his team, he can do what he wants to do. Coulda woulda, but it’s his team. He also wants his team to go to the White House, too.”
When does Ben Stiller's Knicks championship documentary come out?

A release date has not been given for Stiller's documentary. It was announced over the summer after the Knicks won their first championship in 53 years.
Article Continues BelowMore than likely, HBO and A24 will want to take advantage of the hype and get it out sooner rather than later. Still, documentaries take time, and it might be a while before it sees the light of day.
Stiller spoke about it on Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart's Roommates podcast days after the Knicks' championship win. He noted that while the championship is the central focus, it will be all-encompassing. The documentary has been a long time coming, and Stiller—a lifelong Knicks fan—is helping it come to fruition.
“It’s going to be about all eras of the Knicks, and this team obviously, there’s a culmination here, of something that’s been going on for a long time. It’s super exciting,” Stiller said. “It’s great to have had all this access to your team. We’re going to probably be shooting a little bit more during next season, and I’m going to hit you guys up for some interviews. It’s going to be over the next year that we’ll be working on it.”
