The Golden State Warriors advanced to a 5-3 record on Monday after defeating the Phoenix Suns 116-113. It came down to the wire after Stephen Curry missed a late free throw, opening a window of opportunity for Phoenix to steal the win. In the end, Golden State left with a victory, but that missed free throw ended an impressive streak for Curry.
The 38-year-old guard made 51 consecutive free throws before missing his 52nd attempt against the Suns, according to Anthony Slater of ESPN. While the streak is impressive, it's nowhere near his record of 80 straight made free throws from 2019-21.
“Steph Curry from the free-throw line this season: 51-of-52. Made his first 51, including first 11 tonight,” Slater posted on X. “Missed his final one in closing seconds to crack open door, but Suns can't capitalize.”
During the postgame press conference, the 18-year veteran admitted he found himself surprised by the missed free throw. Curry claims he's actually surprised anytime he misses a free throw attempt, or even anytime he misses a shot in general.
“I'm shocked when I miss anytime,” Curry said.

The two-time MVP had a brilliant performance against the Suns. He led the Warriors with 34 points, six rebounds, seven assists, and one steal. He made 42.8% of his field goal attempts, going five for 13 from beyond the three-point line and hitting 11 of his 12 free-throw attempts. His efforts helped Golden State secure its fifth straight win after beginning the season with a three-game losing streak.
Stephen Curry, along with the rest of the NBA, is taking Tuesday off. The four-time NBA champion won't be back in action until Thursday, when he'll have a chance to begin a new free-throw streak against the Miami Heat at home.
