The New York Giants have known nothing but defeat when they go to Philadelphia to face the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. Prior to Sunday's game between the two team, the Giants had lost 13 straight games at the Eagles home stadium. However, that changed dramatically as head coach John Harbaugh's team played an excellent game on defense and earned a 19-11 victory.
The Giants received a spectacular performance from rookie linebacker Arvell Reese. The former Ohio State star and the Giants first-round selection finished the game with 12 tackles, 3.0 sacks and 1 forced fumble. He became the first rookie to record those spectacular numbers since 1999.
The Giants are in first place in the NFC East with a 5-2-1 record. They are the only team in the division with a winning record. The Eagles dropped to 2-7 with the loss. They have lost seven consecutive games and that's their longest losing streak since the 2012 season.
The Eagles had an 8-6 lead at halftime, but the Giants took a 13-8 lead late in the third quarter when quarterback Jameis Winston culminated a 14-play, 76-yard drive with a 5-yard TD pass to TE Isaiah Likely. Winston entered the game after J.J. McCarthy was forced out of the game after taking a huge hit from the Eagles defense and collapsed on the sidelines in pain.
McCarthy was able to return later in the game, but Winston responded when the team needed him to lead the key drive that put them ahead to stay.
Giants placekicker Dominic Zvada played a key role in the victory as he was 4 of 4 on his FG attempts, including a long of 53 yards.
