The Kansas City Chiefs are 6-2 on the season after defeating the New York Jets 35-12 in Week 9. While Sunday ended in victory, it was another sluggish day for kicker Harrison Butker, as he missed his lone field goal attempt going into halftime (he went 4-for-4 on his PATs). Amid a frustrating campaign for Butker, it appears head coach Andy Reid might be even more frustrated with Butker's kicking woes.
During the postgame press conference, the 68-year-old refused to discuss Butker's struggles with media members, according to Sam McDowell of the Kansas City Star. Reid claimed that he would look into what's going on with the 10-year veteran, but would not make an official decision on Sunday.
“Andy Reid on Harrison Butker: ‘I'll address that as we go throughout the week.' Says he's not going to make any decisions right now,” McDowell reported.
Butker missed his seventh field goal of the season against the Jets on Sunday. Through eight games played this season, the former seventh-round pick has already missed more field goals in a single campaign than he has in any other season in his career. However, Butker is kicking 95.5% on his extra point attempts, but that is the only area he is showing any consistency.
We'll see how Andy Reid handles the kicking woes moving forward. After another disappointing miss from Harrison Butker, the Chiefs may have to turn to Justin Tucker. Kansas City signed the controversial former Baltimore Ravens kicker to the practice squad in late October.
The Chiefs will move on to Week 10, still firmly in the mix of the AFC West. They're set to face off against the Atlanta Falcons on the road.
