MIAMI – With the Miami Heat boasting a new lineup featuring Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo manning the frontcourt, there is no denying that there is a palpable feeling within the fanbase and the organization. As the Heat headlined the offseason with the additions of Antetokounmpo and Klay Thompson, along with others, head coach Erik Spoelstra would provide insight into how he views this upcoming season.

That palpable feeling, as mentioned earlier, was felt tremendously during the team's media day on Monday, as the team looks a whole lot different after trading Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel'el Ware, and Kasparas Jakucionis for Antetokounmpo.

As a new era in Miami begins this season, Spoelstra would describe it as a “turning of the page” to ClutchPoints, emphasizing that it was the “appropriate time to start something new.”

“I think it feels like a natural turning of the page for a lot of us,” Spoelstra said. “Obviously, here it just felt like the appropriate time to start something new, a new journey, a new team. And I think for a lot of the players coming in, coincidentally, I think they feel the same way for whatever reason.”

“They got to where they were the last season or two, I feel like there's a synergy from a lot of people in the building about this opportunity and the appropriate time,” Spoelstra continued. “Sometimes, you know, some things in this league really are about alignment, and then we'll see how it all plays out once we get into the competition and the games and all that.”

Heat's Bam Adebayo on the excitement around Giannis Antetokounmpo

The Heat's new dynamic duo of Antetokounmpo and Adebayo will look to lead the team to new heights after the team last season finished with its fourth straight play-in tournament bid, but this time around, they didn't qualify for the playoffs.

Missing the playoffs was a rude awakening for Miami, with the last time being 2019, leading to the Antetokounmpo trade in the offseason, though, as Adebayo said, the link between the star and the franchise had been around for a while.

“Excitement? Pretty sure the city's excited about it. We're excited about it, the team is, this organization, but, you know, I think that [Antetokounmpo to Miami] happening has been talked about since the bubble,” Adebayo said to ClutchPoints. “So to see it finally happen, obviously it's going to be exciting here, and looking forward to it.”

Last season, Adebayo averaged 20.1 points, 10 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game while shooting 44.2 percent from the field and 31.7 percent from three-point range in 73 games.

Heat's Giannis Antetokounmpo on being the best player in the world

In comes the two-time Most Valuable Player (MVP) in Antetokounmpo, who is coming off a season where he averaged 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 5.4 assists, while shooting 62.4 percent from the field in 36 games.

Though not a fully healthy season, the numbers were still great, though Antetokounmpo's peak is even more dominant, having averaged at least 30 points and 11 rebounds in the three seasons prior. Getting back to that point is viable for the 31-year-old, as he still sees himself as the best player in the world.

“I really do believe that,” Antetokounmpo said. “If not the best, I'm one of the best players in the world. I know when I'm at my best, when I'm locked in, when my body's right, I really do believe that I can dominate the game, and I can impact the game in both ways, offensively and defensively. I think I've showed it over the years, even last year, which was probably one of my toughest years.”

“I was still able to affect the game in some way, but when you're up there, top five, top four, top three, two, one, whatever, top 10,” Antetokounmpo continued. “Yeah, the best player is whoever is able to impact the game and help his team go deep in the playoffs and win the championship. That's who the best player is to me.”

At any rate, Antetokounmpo looks to prove his worth with the Heat as training camp starts Tuesday at Florida Atlantic University, ending on Friday ahead of Friday's preseason opener against the Toronto Raptors.
