The Florida Gators are set to take on the No. 7 Texas Longhorns in Week 7 as the program aims to get back in the win column after losing two straight. However, the offense may have to play without quarterback Aaron Philo, as he's dealing with a shoulder injury sustained in the 38-19 Week 6 loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Reports indicate that backup Tramell Jones is likely to get the start on Saturday, according to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports. Philo has been limited in practice throughout the week, as Jones is preparing to potentially get his first career start.
“It’s currently trending toward Florida starting Tramell Jones at quarterback tomorrow against No. 7 Texas, sources tell CBS Sports,” Zenitz reported. “Starter Aaron Philo has been limited this week due to an injury and has been classified as a game-time decision. Would be the first career start for Jones, a Class of 2025 four-star recruit.”
Jones is a sophomore quarterback who joined Florida as a true freshman last season. He's appeared in seven total games in his career, with five of those appearances coming this season. The Jacksonville native has totaled 443 passing yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions while completing 68.8% of his pass attempts.

Florida head coach Jon Sumrall will ultimately make the final decision on who plays quarterback. Based on the reports, though, Gators fans should expect to see Jones on the field on Saturday.
