After winning his debut fight against Devin Jenkins, he suffered a loss to Amanpreet Singh, followed by another loss to Johnny Magna in Lubbock, Texas. Unfortunately, Hager also suffered a concerning eye injury that required surgery following his loss to Magna.
After Magna hit Hager in the face, blood started oozing out of Hager’s eye. The scary moment soon went viral on the internet as Dana White and Power Slap also refrained from showing replays of that moment. Hager had suffered a globe rupture at Power Slap 23 and soon underwent surgery to repair it.
Now weeks later, another major update has emerged on Hager's injury. According to Slap News, Hager had a detached retina and underwent surgery to reattach it. Reportedly, doctors have said it went better than expected. The update was provided by Jake's fiancé, Patricia Blackburn.
“As the blood in Jake Hager's eyes began to clear, doctors discovered during his weekly follow-up that his retina was detached. He underwent urgent surgery to reattach it, which doctors said went better than expected,” Slap News reported.
As of now, neither Hager nor Power Slap has officially commented on the injury or his return timeline. In addition to sustaining the serious injury against Magna, Hager was also knocked out during his second match against Singh.
